Meet Jim Coffman, Manager/Owner

Eckstein Shoe Store

How long have you been in business?

The shoe store has been here since 1923.  My family is the third family to own and operate it.

What made you decide to open your own business?

Back in 2011, my parents, Steve and Sharon Coffman, approached me about a small business up for sale on Main Street in Beech Grove.  We looked into the business and saw huge potential and were very excited about the possibilities. The business is one of the oldest businesses in the City of Beech Grove.  Main Street has seen lots of changes over the years and we are honored to be a part of its future.  My sister, Mary DeVore, has been with us since the beginning, and has stepped up and taken over most of the day to day operations this year.

Why people should consider your business?

We are a small family owned business ready to dedicate time and knowledge to help fit your feet. Approximately 99% of the footwear sold in the USA is imported; whereas most of what we sell is manufactured here in the states!

What is one word that describes being a business owner?

Resilient

What do you do for fun?

Spend time with my wife Jennifer and our children, Claire and Alex.

Are there any charities are causes you are passionate about? I have always been a big supporter of Beautify Beech Grove, The Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce, and Next Stop Beech Grove.  These nonprofits have been instrumental in seeing Main Street succeed, and they each strive to make Main Street a destination to eat, shop, and work.

How has Covid-19 impacted your business?  It has been a tough year for everyone.  We were closed for several weeks and many of our customers have not ventured back out yet. We are hopeful things will return to normal and business will return.   We are in for the long run and know better days are ahead for small business and the customers that support us.

Do you offer any specials or discounts to other chamber members?  Yes!  We would offer $15 off each pair of shoes purchased through the end of 2020*
